JOB TITLE: Apprentice Vehicle Technician

JOB PURPOSE

To carry out vehicle servicing and repairs to the highest possible level of quality and customer service under the supervision and training of a designated vehicle technician.

To attend day release, as required and to pass the necessary elements to qualify as a Vehicle Technician.

To carry out servicing, repairs, testing and fault diagnosis in a safe and economical manner, under the supervision and training of a designated vehicle technician.

To ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To ensure personal safety and the safety of all staff and visitors; to wear protective work wear and equipment and to follow manufacturers’ instructions when operating mechanical equipment.

To develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to carry out the following tasks:

  • To meet the manufacturers’ servicing and repair times.
  • To report current and possible future vehicle faults and service requirements you notice while working on vehicles.
  • To accurately record and report all hours, components, materials and consumables used when working on a particular vehicle.
  • To protect customers’ vehicles with covers and dust sheets and to take care not to damage the vehicle or components during service, repair or testing.
  • To safeguard the customer’s vehicle and contents whilst being serviced, repaired or tested.
  • To ensure that all vehicles are thoroughly examined and report on general vehicle condition with particular emphasis on customer safety.
  • To ensure that all work carried out is to MOT and/or manufacturers’ safety standards.
  • To ensure maximum use of technical knowledge and skills to achieve effective, economic and safe service/repair of customers’ vehicles.
  • To undertake regular quality checks of work completed and to ensure that vehicles comply with safety standards when returned to the customer, or that any faults have been reported and noted on the job card.
  • To minimise wastage of all materials, oils and fluids and to safely dispose of any waste. And to keep the work area clean and tidy.
  • To take care of all plant, tools and equipment used and to operate any plant or equipment having full regard to your own and others’ safety.
  • To recover/collect damaged or defective vehicles as and when necessary.
  • To ensure that all customer complaints are dealt with both speedily and effectively, referring any unresolved problems to your Manager.
  • To ensure that all company, franchiser and trade association policies, procedures and minimum standards are implemented and maintained and that all statutory requirements including trading standards, fire, health and safety are adhered to.

· To handle all internal and external customers and suppliers with courtesy and role model the "Hyundai Brand Values" behaviours at all times.

· To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by Management.

 RELATIONSHIPS

Internal Staff: All company staff, particularly the Service Reception staff.

External Staff: Customer, franchisers, tyre and accessory suppliers, trade associations, insurance and accident assessors, body and paint repair technicians.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Must be prepared to serve a recognised apprenticeship

Be prepared to undertake any manufacturer’s training course.
